anusara
Anusara is a modern form of hatha yoga, and one that we at Hamsa have fallen for completely.
The word anusara (a-nu-sa-ra) means “flowing with Grace” or more poetically “following your heart” or literally anu- “in relation to” and –sara “the essence”.
This modern school of hatha yoga was founded in 1997 by the visionary trailblazer John Friend. It unifies three outstanding things:
Firstly, a life affirming Shiva-Shakti tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness (Anusara is sometimes lovingly called “the yoga of YES”).
Secondly, an elegant set of Universal Principles of Alignment (biomechanics) and last but not least an emphasis on building kula- “community, extended family”. A family of the heart!

hatha
classes focus on correctly performed poses, breathing and relaxation.
through deep and intense stretches the body is made flexible and cleansing begins.
there is space for a small pause between each pose and often the same pose will be done several times in a row with new instructions and explanations.
the harmonious union of natural breath and movements relaxes the muscles and calms the mind.
hatha yoga brings you energy and harmony and drunken bliss.

gentle hatha
a class that is restorative and restful.
it is a class for everybody who wants to rid themselves of stress and recharge the batteries.
Apart from gentle hatha poses, there will also be taught restorative poses, where one stays for a longer period of time in each pose (4-6 min) to dissolve tension in the deepest layers of the body.
gentle hatha is meditative, has a slow pace and is prefect if you have an injury or other health issues.

vinyasa
at vinyasa yoga there is a focus on both the poses and the transitions between them. the poses follow each other as pearls on a string, in a flow.
the sequence is without pauses between the poses, which give a thorough work out and raises the temperature.
the starting point is often a variation of the sun salutation, which is then developed further. there is focus on playful aspect of yoga, the creative transitions between the poses and meditative movement.

gentle vinyasa
at these morning classes the focus is on a gentle luxurious flow that awakens the body.
the class develops from a gentle flow, with long, lovely, deep stretches, to more energetic sequenses with a few standing poses.
the class is accompanied by soft music and careful instructions and it makes the sun rise in your heart.

about levels
there are different levels of intensity and complexity and it is important that you chose the right level to take care of your body and to get the most out of the class.
all yoga classes begins with a centering and a short meditation.
after this the asanas (poses) follow and the sequence is completed with asanas that cool the body and the mind down and a long, yogic deep relaxation, savasana (resting pose) at the very end.
in some of the classes there is music, in others a little bit of chanting or a reading of a couple of beautiful poems to set the heart in motion.

level 1
all levels can attend this class and even the experienced student can find challenges by going deeper into the principals of the poses.
on this level all the asanas are explained in detail and adjustments are made.
there is a focus on working with technique, basic poses, strength and flexibility as build up to level 2 classes.

level 2
is for the intermediate student who is expected to have knowledge of the different poses.
less time is spent on explanations and the techniques behind the poses, instead the classes are infused with philosophy, poetry and breathing exercises.
in these classes you should know, or have the guts to try handstand, headstand (both by a wall), bridge pose and shoulderstand.
