At the Wall Workshop
with Nancy McCaochan, MA, E-RYT
"Whether it be spiritual, emotional, or physical resistance we experience, we can benefit
from taking our yoga to the wall. A wall supports us, brings awareness to our alignment and helps us dissolve our barriers. This workshop will present multiple ways in which a wall can enhance our asana practice."
We’ll begin with postures that focus on the pelvis, observing how leverage and alignment increase both grounding and openness. Then we’ll weave this understanding through a slow flow of standing, balance and core strengthening poses.
Bio
Nancy McCaochan, M.A., E-RYT, has been teaching yoga for 15 years. In 2001, she left the college writing classroom to devote her life to helping others become more comfortable in their bodies. She’s explored many traditions from Kripalu to Kundalini, but she considers herself “Krishnamacharya’s child" in that her primary influences have been through the teachings of his lineage: Iyengar, Ashtanga, Desikachar, and Anusara.
In addition to yoga, Nancy practices mindfulness meditation and Shamanism, a healing modality that originated in tribal societies. Her hatha yoga classes combine clear, concise instruction with cultivation of breath to develop a toned relaxation in her students. She has been teaching teachers since 2005 and in 2008 published Like Stanzas in a Poem, Yoga at the Wall. (www.yogaatthewall.com).

“Turn a Friday Night Upside Down” -
Simon teaches a workshop on inversions - Friday 24/9, 17.00 – 20.00
Inversions are technically very interesting and great fun. In this workshop we shall play systematically with handstand, headstand and pincha mayurasana (forearm balance) and try some cool variations and transitions.
The most common obstacle in learning to do inversions is the fear of falling. Therefore this workshop will not only focus on how to do the poses, but also how to fall in safe and cool ways. Once the fear is gone, you will learn four times as fast, and have loads more fun.
The workshop will be taught in English. All levels are welcome, but you must have some previous experience with yoga.

Yoga er mere end wellness og smidighed. Yogatraditionen lover dig evig fred, lykke og frihed gennem mystisk erkendelse af verden og af din egen sande natur. Det oplagte spørgsmål er: Hvordan kan strækøvelser indfri dette løfte?
Ifølge klassisk indisk tankegang opstår menneskets problemer, når du lever dit liv med en fejlagtig opfattelse af, hvem du er. Derfor opnår du evig fred og frihed, hvis det lykkes dig at erkende din egen sande natur. Problemet er imidlertid, at denne dybe indsigt transcenderer vores rationalitet og kan derfor ikke opnås ved logisk tænkning eller ved at læse en bog. De gamle indere udviklede derfor yoga som et praktisk redskab til at opnå denne mystiske selvindsigt.
Dette er en unik mulighed for at få rigtig godt styr på de grundlæggende grene indenfor yogafilosofi, og dermed nogle af de mest skarpsindige, overraskende og ekstreme tanker verden nogen sinde har set! Vi vil systematisk læse, diskutere og forhåbentlig forstå de mest centrale passager fra traditionens sejeste tekster. Vi vil både forholde os akademisk til stoffet og undersøge, hvordan tankerne kan relateres til, hvad vi laver på yogamåtten og til vores liv generelt. Omkring en fjerdedel af kurset vil bestå af praktiske øvelser.
Eksistentiel frigørelse, evig fred og lyksalighed er måske et lidt for højt ambitionsniveau for dette kursus, men det er min erfaring, at forståelse af yogaens bagvedliggende tanker kan bringe større dybde i vores yogapraksis og hjælpe os til at leve vores liv med større glæde, balance og autenticitet.
Kurset er henvendt til alle med interesse for emnet, men kan stærkt anbefales til yogalærere. De praktiske teknikker vil hverken kræve styrke eller smidighed, så kurset er passende for alle niveauer. Der vil blive uddelt et kompendium til deltagerne, og der vil være ca. femten siders læsning til hver lektion.
